Choosing Between Dock Levelers

A dock leveler is a piece of equipment that is either mounted to the dock face or recessed into a pit at a loading dock, this will allow movement of industrial vehicles between buildings and a transporting vehicle. There are many different types of dock levelers such as air powered dock levelers, mechanical dock levelers, edge of dock levelers, vertical storing dock levelers and hydraulic levelers. Choosing between leveler designs can seem stressful with all the options you have but at Altech Doors we are here to help you throughout the process. We provide a wide range of weight capacity loading docks, from 100 lb all the way to 80,000 lb docks.

Hydraulic Dock Leveler VS Mechanical Leveler

Hydraulic dock levelers are push button activated and tend to have the highest capacity available. It can help maintain a safe and reasonable slope from the floor to the trailer bed while floating below and above the dock. It utilizes the fully powered raise and lip extensions. If safety is really important to you then a hydraulic dock leveler is the safest choice for you. A mechanical leveler is an economical solution to basic application while providing strength and durability. The leveler design works by using a pull chain activation to raise the deck. Then the operator walks the deck down to the bed of the trailer or stored position.
